Kabbalah Amulet
What is the mainstream Jewish view of wearing the "red string"?
I know that it's a real custom among Jews (wrapping red string around Rachel's tomb while chanting prayers and then wearing the string as a sort of amulet), but what do most Jews think of it?
I'm not talking about the Kabbalah Centre. I already know that they're not Jews.
Er...thanks so much for being insulting.
Kabbalah is Jewish mysticism, and if it's a Kabbalistic practice, then, yes, it IS a Jewish practice.

I've never heard of Jews wearing red strings on their wrists outside of the Kabbalah Center people (who, as you rightly say, aren't Jews).
There's some old folk belief about the ayin hara (evil eye) and red string, but it's sort of nebulous as to wear it came from, as it's not from the TaNaKh, the Talmud, or any other religious texts.
I think the vast majority of Jews would see it as a nonsensical practice at best and idolatry at worst.

Silver Protection
What is your impression of a person that wears alot of silver jewelry?
Could they be wearing silver for spiritual protection? What are the mystic beliefs about silver? Why do people that wear silver stand out more than those who wear gold? PLEASE NO REPLYS ABOUT IT'S FASHION OR STYLE...I'M TALKING ABOUT WEARING SILVER AS PART OF A PERSON"S BELIEFS AND/OR SPIRITUAL GROWTH !!!!! NO SILLY ANSWERS PLEASES !!!!!
I would think that a person who wears a lot of silver jewellry would be a moon person - that is the moon would feature strongly in their astrological chart (whether they realise it or not) as silver is the metal connected with the moon. They would be attracted to it, and feel better for wearing it, it would blend with their own energy really well.
It's also great protection against negative energy.

Hamsa Magen
Fellow Jews which do you choose - Hamsa, Magen David, or Chai?
I have been curious about this lately. Do you choose to wear a Magen David, Hamsa, Chai, or neither? And why do you choose to wear or not wear the one you do?
In the past I have worn all three, currently a Magen David because my mom brought it to me from Israel. My reasoning is I feel all three bring me a certain daily reminder, pride, & connection to Judaism & our history & my ancestors.
I have heard though that some Jews opt not to wear a Magen David, but I do not recall the reason why.
Wtf, how come no one ever answers my questions.... "/
I guess I didn't think of the time difference. I'm in US on the west coast so it was still early when I posted this. Good call Michelle.
Thanks to the ladies that answered though.
I have a Magen David that I got from the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York. I really love it - simple and silver and beautifully done - and it mattered that it came from the place where so many of my relations ended up before/during/after the holocaust. I've worn it ever since I got it in 2001.
The one time I didn't wear it was in Jerusalem. This was at the urging of my Jewish family in Israel, who were worried for my safety. They thought it would be better if I was just a European tourist, rather than obviously a Jew. That felt very sad indeed,
I have a Hamsa but I don't ever wear it. I'm not entirely certain why, except perhaps the fact that the person who gave it to me emphasised that it was also a Muslim symbol may have had something to do with it. I would love a Chai. The emphasis on life is part of what drew me to Judaism. Maybe sometime soon......
