How do you determine when to light the candles on shabbat in winter in Iceland?
In Iceland, in winter, the sun doesn't really ever rise on some days - and in summer, it doesn't set. What do Jews in Iceland go by on those days? After all, shabbat candles are lit at sunset. If it never sets, what time do they go by instead?
Both of the jews in Iceland just light the candles at 9 o'clock. In all seriousness though, I i'm Icelandic and know of no jews in iceland, we are a bunch of agnostic evangelical lutherans.

Most observant Jews fast from the night before until 24 hours later (approx, because Jewish holidays start at night). The night that it starts, we read Megillat Eicha, which is a very sad book, with a lot of sad quotes and sayings. There are also traditions like not to be too comfortable (i.e. not wearing leathers shoes, not sitting on overly comfortable chairs, some don't sleep with pillows, not washing up, not using deodorant, not having sex, etc.)
