Cleansing Smudge
Can purple sage be used for making smudge sticks?
Will it have the same cleansing affect as the regular white sage?
There are a lot of sage bushes in my backyard, but there seem to be more purple sage than common sage, and I don't want to break too much of the common sage if purple will have the same affect when smudging.
Why don't you just try it and find out? There is no reason why not, as far as I can see. Anything aromatic and non-toxic can be used for smudging. Use what's in the backyard, don't let it go to waste!

Smudge Incense
Wiccan cleansing ritual for malevolent spirit. Need some input.?
I've been asked to do a cleansing ritual at a friends home to rid it of an evil spirit. This spirit has visited multiple women of this family and all are very scared. I've cleansed my own home and the results have been wonderful, however, I've never cleansed an area with such negative energies. I already plan on using white sage smudges and writing my own ritual. I have not really been able to find anything in my books or online that recommend any certain incense scents or candle colors that should be used. I do not want to go in ill prepared. Any of my fellow Wiccans have any suggestions?
I recommend black, it is good for fighting negativity.
More to the point, though, it is not so much about what color candle you use, so much as it is about you yourself being prepared, psychically. I suggest deep meditation and frequent energy-shielding workings to prepare, that's what I had to do about the negativity lodged in my closet.

Mix Wiccan
What's wrong with being Wiccan?
I can be any religion I want to be, right? My parents are a mix and they said that they don't like the discrimanation so I can be anything I wanna be. Well, I've always felt that I want to be Wiccan. You know, the witch religion. Spells, sorcery. Anyway I don't see anything wrong with that. Well all my friends parents think the same so we were talking about what religion we wanted to be. I said that they want to be Wiccan. At first they just stared at me. I told them what Wicca is and they thought I was crazy. I'm sure that by now they've forgoten about it but I don't understand why they think I'm crazy. I mean, I know that hardly anyone is Wiccan but so what if I want to be?
Yeah I don't think anyone should stop you! The reason I think some people will look at you all weird is because they're kinda scared of that stuff and already judge what it's all about, thinking that it's devil work. I for one wouldn't think of doing that, but I for one wouldn't stop you for doing what you wanna do! It's your right!

can i substitute incense in a ritual?
i have asthma. i'm a practicing witch. i need to know if i can use candles instead of incense, or if their is a type of incense asthma-friendly.
for those who don't know, asthma is a breathing condition where your lungs basically close up when confronted with pets, smoke, and pollen, etc.
You really don't need candles or incense for spells. First off, what was the incense supposed to lend to your spell work? Just "mood"? Elemental energy? Mood you can create in other ways. Elemental energy can come from any number of substitute items. If the incense is to invoke an Air element, try a feather to represent the same. The most important thing is to know why your spell included incense in the first place and whether it is an essential or non-essential ingredient. I'm guessing it is non-essential and a substitute is fine. Even a flame-less candle is OK. If you relax and don't sweat the small details of you spell, you'll find results come more easily. Remember, the worst that can happen is that NOTHING will happen. Good luck with your spells!
