Rosary From
Catholics. Let me rephrase this. Educate me. Where did the rosary come from?
Please explain to me where the rosary came from and it's purpose. What official church document states this? How does reciting the rosary benefit the person praying? Do you know the 15 promises of the rosary?
Please educate me in this matter.
Also, is saying the rosary going against this Bible verse? Why not?
"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do..." -Matthew 6:7
I am looking for honest answers. Thank you for clearing this up for me.
I have a thirst for knowledge. I am hoping the Catholics can school me in this matter.
You see, the Catholic church changes it's teachings every so often. I wanted the latest teaching.
Yes the church required it, but did God?

"The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish."
This is scary? Only Jesus can save us. This says that the Mary can save our soul?
The Rosary as a system of devotion evolved over time, so there isn't any pinpointed time/place/person I can give you as the origin of the Rosary.
The purpose of the Rosary is to give people a structured devotional that helps them focus on Christ for 15-20 minutes a day.
The Rosary benefits the person by helping them focus on Christ, His life and His works. Gets you in the right frame of mind to follow Him.
Yes, I know the 15 promises of the Rosary.
No, saying the Rosary is NOT going against any Bible verse. To the contrary -- the Rosary is full of Bible verses. It's like a mini-Bible study, designed for people who didn't have Bibles (too expensive to own) and couldn't read (most of society was illiterate until the 18th century or so).
If you actually knew what the Rosary is, you wouldn't be scared. And that promise does NOT say that Mary saves souls. The promise says that if you use the Rosary to focus on Christ and ask Mary to pray with you and for you (part of the Rosary prayers), then you won't parish because CHRIST will save you, not Mary.
The Rosary is four sets of five meditations ("Mysteries") about Jesus. For example, on Tuesdays and Fridays, the five events that we think and pray about are:
Jesus' agony in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before He was arrested
Jesus being beaten by Roman soliders
Jesus being crowned with thorns
Jesus carrying His own Cross
Jesus being Crucified.
I'm sure you recognize all of these as events that happened in the Bible. Do you truly believe there is anything wrong with a person spending 15-20 minutes thinking about and praying about these events? Do you not see how this devotion would help a person grow closer to Jesus?
