how do I remove old mortar mix from stone so that it can be used again?
I read about a solution which can be applied to old mortar making it easier to chip off but sadly I didn`t make a note of it at the time. Can anyone help me please?
There is no easy way that I am aware of. Chipping or grinding are the way to go.
The only solution I have heard of when trying to remove old cement from steel is Miratic Acid. It is also used to clean oil from driveways and such. It tends to "corrode" the cement a bit. It actually will eat away at the cement.
You might try this to see if it helps but I CAUTION you that it will burn your skin. Wear chemical resistant gloves and eye protection if you are going to attempt to use this product. It is available at most hardware stores. I further caution you to the fact that it may very well permanently discolor the stones. The directions on the bottle will tell you how to dilute it properly.
