knitting a skull cap?
i'm having trouble sizing a skull cap, is there a site that can help me size, or an easy way to size it, it's for a big head.
One way: measure. You know the size of the head. Measure around the head, just over the ears, all around the forehead and the bump at the back of the head. You have knit a sample, so you know how many stitches you get over 2 inches. So now do all that math they teach us in school that we thought we would never need: "if there are x stitches in 2 inches, how many stitches are there in 22 inches?" That type of thing.
I would subtract a couple of stitches from the final answer. Knitting stretches, so you want to keep this beanie snug. EZ suggests deducting about 10%... I would make is a little less (8%?). If you are doing some ribbing at the bottom edge, make it a multiple of 2 for 1/1 rib, and multiple of 4 for a 2/2 rib.
