How do I find out what a piece of art/old book with signature/autograph of artist is worth?
I tried several things including ebay and rarebook sights and they had info but I am looking for more of an appraisal type thing.
if you go to an appraiser you will have to pay a fee, though there are several websites who say they do it for free. I put one link down. You will find more if you search for free book appraisal. I usually go to websites like www.bookfinder.com and see if there is anything similar.
Also it will give you an idea what other things except title you should look for: is there a dustcover, if so does it have tears, dirt? Is there damage to the binding of the book, is it tight or loose? Are the pages clean? Frequently old books get brownish spots which is called foxing. Also find out how famous the artist was. That will determine the value of the signature.
Otherwise just google your question. There are plenty of websites about the subject.
