Why does the Challah bread i bake always come out wrong?
the bread comes out un-risen and very dense... i do liquids and solids separate and i let the yeast rise...any tips, suggestions or just answers would be great! thank you!
Could be bad yeast or too cold for rising it. Try to rise it in the oven with a large pot of very hot water in the oven to the side or above the dough. Don't put the water below the dough or it may not rise evenly.
You can also try a poolish method of dough making. You mix equal parts water and flour by volume with the yeast and let it rise for one hour. Then add the rest of the flour as per the recipe and let it rise for about half and hour before forming into the loaves. I find this works the best to develop the yeast. Be sure the water flour mix is in a container big enough to allow for the foam on top.
